Join us for August’s monthly meeting. Bob’s topic will be the U.S. Secret Service’s cyber-investigations mission, the Service’s Electronic Crimes Task Force (ECTF) and Electronic Crimes Special Agent (ECSAP) programs, and will include some vignettes about cases worked by the Seattle ECTF, to include that of Roman Seleznev, (aka “Track 2).

In addition, ISSA Chapter President Justin White will lead an analysis of the most recent news and discuss how cyber attackers continue to evolve during his monthly Garden Fresh presentation. In this presentation, we will explore the trends that define today’s threat landscape such as recent cyber attacks, intelligence-led insights, and advanced defensive strategies.

Speaker

Bob Kierstead is a security operations executive with more than 28 years of experience in the government and private sectors. He is currently the security advisor at a private company in the Greater Seattle area. From February 2014 to January 2019, Bob served as the Special Agent in Charge (SAIC) of the U.S. Secret Service’s Seattle District, where he was responsible for overseeing all of the agency’s protective and investigative missions in an expansive region that includes Washington State, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and Northern Idaho. The Seattle District is renowned for its expertise in conducting dynamic protective operations and transnational cybercrimes investigations. As a leader in the Secret Service’s Seattle District, he directed numerous cyber-crimes investigations, including that of elusive computer hacker Roman Seleznev, a Russian national whose illicit activities resulted in $170 million in damages to banks and financial institutions. Seleznev was ultimately captured, tried, and sentenced to serve 27 years in federal prison. This case is considered to be one of the largest and most successful in the history of the Secret Service.

Bob began his career with the U.S. Secret Service in 1991 as a Special Agent assigned to the Boston Field Office. He went on to serve on the Presidential Protective Division, the Special Operations Division, and the Seattle District. He holds masters’ degrees from both the Naval Postgraduate School (MA-Security Studies) and The Johns Hopkins University (MS-Management), and earned his bachelor’s degree (BS-Criminal Justice) from Arizona State University. Bob resides with his family in the Seattle metropolitan area.
