Cory Marchand, Sr. Security Program Manager at Microsoft
Cory Marchand has worked inside of the Information Security field for over a decade, supporting customers ranging from State & Local to the US government and now currently working for the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC). Since joining Microsoft, Cory has spent the majority of his career working inside of Incident Response / Crisis Management but has also held roles in Red Team Operations, Cyber Threat Intelligence & Analysis as well as Security Operations, giving him a depth and breadth of the industry throughout. He spent 6 years living abroad working with US Intelligence Community supporting the US Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR) in Offensive Cyberspace Operations.
Topic: Why Patching Isn’t Enough With the success or rather failure surrounding both the WannaCry and Petya (NotPetya) outbreaks, we have learned that patching is not enough to secure your environment. In all realities, it never was enough, but patching systems have been the bar to meet in order to “get to green” inside of the compliance space. Even worse, several industries to include manufacturing, healthcare, and even governments are “stuck” with tooling, machinery, and systems that can no longer be patched, creating potentially large security gaps within the environment. It is now more evident than ever that all organizations big and small must adopt a much more comprehensive approach to securing their environments.
