ISSA Puget Sound October Meeting – JT Taylor – Cybereason – A Symbiotic Partnership
Description
Join us on October 20th, in person or virtually for our monthly ISSA meeting and to hear Jonathan “JT” Taylor, Consulting and Sales Engineer, Cybereason, deliver a presentation on the symbiotic partnership opportunities that exist between disaster recovery and cyber security teams.
Synopsis: Cyber security teams are often prevented from pentesting the most-critical assets for fear that a pentest might disrupt critical operations. The fear that a cyber attack could damage production should be your first clue why a partnership with Disaster Recovery is important. Cyber disasters are arguably the most-probable type of disaster these days.
Furthermore, disaster Recovery teams often have access to isolated functional recovery environments where backups can be safely restored to test their efficacy, without threatening production. Once validated, these recovered and running “copies” of production after a drill exercise could also double as a cyber range for pentesting your most-critical applications.
In this presentation we will discuss these and other areas of symbiotic partnership opportunity that exist between disaster recovery and cyber security teams, held back only by the silos that stand between them.
Bio: JT’s background includes many years teaching cyber security at local colleges, competing in and winning hacking competitions such as Defcon Hacker Capture the Flag (2001 & 2002), and 23 Years at Sutter Health, serving in technical and leadership roles such as Security Engineer, Disaster Recovery Manager, and Director of Privacy and Security Risk. JT recently began a new adventure back to technical roots as a Sales Engineer for Cybereason, a Boston-based Endpoint Detection & Response solution.
This will be a hybrid meeting (both in-person and on-line). You may attend remotely via Zoom or attend in person at 8236 SE 24th St, Mercer Island, WA 98040. Either way, please register!
